Client Success Story: Recovery From an Eating Disorder

By Rebecca Bitzer, MS, RD, LD, CEDRD

Below is a letter written to me by a past client, Lauren. Our monthly newsletter prompted her email, and I was so happy to hear from her! Lauren’s story is inspirational and we had to share!

Hi Rebecca!

It’s been a long time, I hope that this finds you well! I was just reading the RBA newsletter this morning around 3am, while holding my newborn son, and I wanted to send a note thanking you. I could not have imagined almost 10 years ago sitting in your office where I would be now and how healthy I could be.  The past weeks have been the most challenging and amazing of my life and I have never been so grateful for my body and the astonishing changes of pregnancy and birth. Recently I found myself coming back to conversations we had about appreciating the things that a body can do, and during the sleepless nights and adjustments to nursing, I have tried to take time to thank my body for bringing me my son and helping him grow- he was born premature about 5 weeks early, so we’ve had a few challenges with his weight gain, but now he is growing like a weed and I have never been happier to see the numbers on a scale increase.

Lauren and Chase

Your dedication to helping me recover from what felt like an impossible situation is so amazing. I owe so much to your support and time you spent with me. I had a healthy and ED free pregnancy- my body image stayed strong through out and has been before that for many years now. Back in college I wasn’t sure how I could ever have children and be a good role model for them, but now I am so excited to be able to teach my son Chase about being healthy and how to express himself.

Your clients are incredibly lucky to have the talents and skills of you and your entire empowered eating team to support them- you all are truly making huge changes in their lives and it makes me smile to know that girls like me can overcome their ED too because of the programs you have created. There should be more “Rebeccas” out in the world 🙂

Take care,
