Dana’s Self-Care Successes Check-in
Check-in with another one of our registered dietitians doing our self-care challenge. I am sure I am not the only one that feels excitement when the self care email of the day comes in. Each day, I find myself opening it and scrolling down to see what is next!
Self-care Challenge Check-in
The Self-Care Challenge yesterday really resonated with me, which was to limit multitasking. I think in our culture we are expected to multitask and praised for doing so. However, when it comes to eating it is good to remind yourself that it is OK to enjoy your food. Not only is it ok, but it will help you reach your nutrition goals! Take some time and savor your food. This helps us recognize our hunger and fullness and allows our body to regulate our intake. It also lets you taste those foods you love OR notice when it is not a taste you are enjoying.
Yoga
I also embraced the “practice yoga” day during the self care challenge. With yoga, I often find myself making fun of my own flexibility or lack thereof so this was definitely out of my comfort zone. For the challenge, I joined the REBEL group for some yoga on a Saturday morning and really enjoyed it! No, I was not the star of the class but the real take home for me was the feeling of taking care of myself, letting go of stressors from the week and focusing on the movements.
Relax
Our instructor Erin at one point said as she coached us through the poses, “Relax, there is nothing you need to do at this moment.” For me that was so powerful. I always have my mind on my to-do list or what I SHOULD be doing so it was amazing to be drawn to the present. I now use this phrase when I lay down at night and my head is filled with tasks, “there is nothing you need to do at this moment” as if to say allow yourself to relax, to sleep, to reboot.
How have you practiced self care this week?
Although this challenge is technically over, you can still challenge yourself with these self-care challenges. You can also join our January 2017 rebel challenge here.
